![]() And tho the whole game spends valuable time to lay down the plot point that advanced unshackled AI like EDI and reaper advanced geth have evolved past the point of needing their creators and are now to be considered alive and sentient beings, they somehow still needed “human understanding” to become even more alive because before this they were actually not real and alive because they were still bound by their programming and didn’t have free will we lied actually hope this helps :) <3.About the 2012 Electronic Arts video game Oh and also space magic made everyone a semi robot because green light go brr. Starting with the synthesis ending, so we are to believe that just because the reapers now have “human understanding” they actively will help rebuild the galaxy and we are also to believe that humans, asari, turians and rachni actively work with mutilated versions of their race who were mindless foot soldiers made from their families and friends without any complaint and are now to include them into society :). While I liked the ending mission and yes I stick by the fact that shepard must die, none of the endings make a good enough end for the trilogy. Mass Effect 2 planned out its in game “science” and provided answers to even the most basic questions like why can’t you use quantum entanglement everywhere? and me3 on the other hand can’t even cook up a solid motivation for the reapers or the catalyst. The catalyst taking the form of a random child from earth is not even TOUCHED. Any and all answers about the reapers and the protheans were exclusively available in paid dlc so the original game literally had FUCK ALL in terms of lore in it. It actively waves off answering any questions about protheans because “oh javik doesn’t know or he just won’t talk about it”. And that’s the stand that me3 takes on a lot of its lore and its absolutely disappointing. And still we have zero answers about what it actually did, who originally came up with it and why the all seeing reapers who can literally get into people’s head didn’t know anything about it. A game like mass effect that is so devoid of race and refuses to include it in its lore for better or for worse should simply step away from trying to do anything race related especially since the white men incharge of writing can’t even write white women correctly. I hope I don’t have to explain for awful that is but I will just say simply reversing the roles does not automatically make it subversive or profound. Javik with whom bioware made the active decision to give him a very african color scheme and accent and then proceeded to make him come from a race of proud slavers. Kai Leng, one of the only asian people who gets a very asian name is the “invincible” ninja subordinate trope to TIM complete with the sword and the weird ponytail who makes Zero impact on any part of the game or lore besides being mild inconvenience and getting defeated in a lack luster boss fight. ![]() If they wanted so badly to get some latin representation into the game, at least hire a fucking latino voice actor for james so that he doesn’t mess up the pronunciation of huevos rancheros. Both James and Kai are incredibly annoying racial stereotypes that enter way too late into the trilogy to make any kind of meaningful connection with the player, especially when we are coming off the heels of me2 which already gave a very good cast for bioware to choose from. ![]() Unnecessary and dubious additions to the cast. I really really enjoyed this about the game. Companions and NPCs get to show off more emotions and talk about family/relationships beyond Shepard and their homeworlds and it adds a very relatable and realistic edge to them, it converts them from “ooh my wacky friends I go on space adventures with!” to grounded individuals with attachments and motivations. The overall tone of the game is very very sombre and it is surprisingly done well and taken seriously which makes the moments of lightness and hope SO much more impactful. The music is phenomenal, incredibly tear jerking and incredibly adrenaline inducing exactly when it needs to be. Maybe a part of it was because this game started off on Earth and you see the most amount of humans in this game than the rest which grounded the scenario for me and made it hit more close to home but this game definitely carries its theme of loss, grief and tragedy of war very well. This was definitely the most emotionally compelling of all 3 games imo. ![]()
